with min, or radical minimalism, the need for shelter has been minimalized. it is hardly necessary. so is clothing... one outfit shout be all that is needed. furniture is obviously frivolous and is dispensed with.
this is the lifestyle of intentional itinerates. the need for food, clothing, and shelter is obvious in too cold for comfort climates, however, and local shelters should provide all that is required in this respect.
i suggest a mediteranean climate for best results.
a single pot/ mug is all that might be desired and can easily be hung from a belt or slung round the shelter.
not since the days of the cynics has this intentional lifestyle been experienced in the west.

what of the home
what of the home in the global age? i'm talking in an architectural sense. some say whole nations and their economies are being marginalized. what does that do to where people live? it seems to me that mass housing solutions are about as effective as mass anything having to do with mass anything.
the answer lies in the individual (s) in a house hold.
as space becomes less important and time (events) is seen as the generator of domesticity, the closer we can come to a pure expression of that commodity, the better. already, our children and children's children are spending most of their time in the virtual world, gaming, networking, etc.
so, space is not as essential as it once was. in fact, vast spaces are inefficient and anti real time environment. thus, the shrinking of the domestic space is mandatory. we must no longer look at square footage or square meters, we must consider the time events consume and shrink it by shrinking the number of possessions. i.e., 1 cup takes less time to clean than 3 glasses, a mug, and a demi tasse. a single mug/pot will work much better than the cacophony of kitchen ware in the current state of affairs.
coming: is the back pack our home of the future?
